Present-day Artificial Intelligence (AI) remains fundamentally limited in both method and application. Intellectual tasks performed by humans—those involving original or abstract thinking—find no synthetic parallels that align in terms of the underlying cognitive basis. Moreover, state-of-the-art AI fails to capture the defining trait of human intellect: free-willed intelligence, which manifests in articulation, innovation, strategy, humor, and more. As for the method, AI remains largely statistical and invariably algorithmic. If we associate intelligence more with the cause than the effect of the involved dynamics in responding to a given problem – that is, as a basis for the evolution of an algorithm than the ensuing output – the prevalent methods seem shallow in merely modeling the final step of intelligence generation process. The evident gap between these machine-like means and the human-like ends of autonomous, general intelligence begs the question—

Have we been asking the right questions?

This blog aims to raise such fundamental questions—the ones long dismissed as obvious or those we did not know how to ask. A3ILABS’ Project POC responds to some of these foundational challenges, particularly within the prevailing paradigms of AI and AGI research. Several of the results are likely to be surprising, to say the least.
